Musk is a foundation note used to give perfume softness, diffusion and a lingering skin-like effect. Its character ranges from clean and airy to powdery, creamy, warm or subtly animalic, depending on the materials around it. In modern women’s fragrances, musk is often built into the base, where it smooths the transition between brighter top notes and deeper woods or amber.

Musk pairs naturally with rose, jasmine, iris, citrus, vanilla, sandalwood and patchouli.
