Cypriol, also known as nagarmotha, is a dry, woody aromatic material with earthy, smoky and subtly leathery facets. In perfume it gives a composition a darker, more textured outline than smooth cedar or clean sandalwood, while a lightly rooty, bitter-green edge keeps the effect from becoming overly sweet. It is usually used as a heart or base note.

Its character shifts with its partners: oud and incense emphasise its smoky, resinous side; patchouli and vetiver underline the earthy depth; rose, saffron and soft musks can make the accord feel more polished and rounded.
