Vanilla in men’s fragrance is rarely just sugary. It is a warm, creamy, balsamic material that rounds a composition and gives the drydown softness. Depending on the formula, it may read as smooth and gourmand, lightly powdery, or dark and resinous. It usually appears in the base, where it pairs naturally with woods, amber, tobacco, leather, musks and spices; citrus, aromatic herbs and lavender can keep the effect brighter and more tailored.
