Oud, also known as agarwood, is a dense woody note with a distinctive dark profile. In perfumery, it is usually used as a base note, giving a fragrance lasting depth and a dry, resinous character. Depending on the blend, oud can smell smoky, leathery, earthy, subtly sweet or almost balsamic, making it more nuanced than a straightforward woody accord.

Men's oud fragrances range from smooth and polished to powerful and richly textured. Oud is often paired with citrus, rose, saffron, spices, amber, musk or other woods to soften its intensity or sharpen its edges. Look to lighter combinations for daytime wear, while concentrated oud with warm resins, leather or spice suits evening settings and cooler weather.
