Amberwood is a modern perfumery material used to give a fragrance a dry, warm woody core with an ambered, lightly mineral character. It is usually placed in the base, where its firm structure and strong diffusion help carry the composition beyond the brighter opening notes. Rather than smelling like sweet amber alone, amberwood tends to bring a clean, polished woodiness with a smooth, slightly peppery edge.

In men's fragrances, it commonly supports citrus, aromatic, spicy and other woody notes, giving fresh openings a more substantial dry-down. Paired with musk or soft woods, it can read clean and understated; with darker woods, leather or spices, it becomes warmer and more assertive.
